Perfect for spontaneous paddling
I was looking for an alternative to a solo canoe. My car is a convertible, so I can't put a canoe on top. The Sevylor Quickpak Kayak fits nicely in the trunk of my car, giving me the option of getting on the water whenever I want. It's easy to inflate and deflate with the pump that comes with it, and the seat doubles as a harness for carrying the deflated, folded up kayak on your back.
Overall, it does what I want it to do. No more staring wistfully across a body of water, wishing I had a canoe. Now I just pump up my kayak and start paddling!
There are a few downsides. First, be prepared to get wet! My legs and butt get soaked, mostly from water dripping off the paddle and pooling up in the kayak. Second, beware of choppy water. The inflatable kayak is essentially a small, bouncy raft. On flat water, it's great. On choppy water, I wound up getting seasick. Third, beware of strong winds. Heading into a strong wind, I realized it would help to put some extra weight...
